Longtime radio sportscaster Scott Gray announced his retirement on the air Friday morning.

Gray has worked for WTIC Newstalk 1080 since 1981. His last day will be October 3rd. He worked on UConn women’s basketball games,  Hartford Wolf Pack and New Britain Rock Cat games. He has appeared on Fox CT’s “The Stan Simpson Show” numerous times to talk sports.

In a statement, Gray said, “The 34 years I’ve spent at WTIC have been the most enjoyable time of my 43 year career in broadcasting.  I’ve been blessed to have worked in the Hartford market for that entire time, but, to me, as a lifelong resident of the market, WTIC was always the gold standard of radio.  To have become a part of that gold standard, to have worked with, and become friends with, so many legends of the business, Bob Steele, Arnold Dean, Ross Miller, Bob Downes, to name just a few, was a dream come true and an opportunity for which I will always be grateful. ”

In a press release, WTIC Radio said, “Bob Joyce, WTIC Producer and the play-by-play announcer for UConn Women’s Basketball will anchor the morning sports reports until a permanent replacement is named.”
