KILLINGLY – Police said a man who went missing while swimming Thursday afternoon has died, after being pulled from the waters of Killingly Pond.
DEEP Environmental Conservation Police said Jerry Wayne Johnson, 28, of Melbourne, Florida, was pronounced dead at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Fire Department dive teams found the missing swimmer just before 2 p.m. He was unconscious and in critical condition when he was found.
They were searching the pond for him since around 12:45 p.m.
The man had been swimming with a group of people at the pond when he went under and wasn’t seen again.
Rescue boats were also in the water looking for him.
He was taken by ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.
EnCon Police are investigating the facility and notifying family of the victim.
