EAST GRANBY — A Windsor man was killed in a serious crash on Route 20 in East Granby on Tuesday that caused traffic back ups near the airport.

Police said that at around 4:30 p.m., a motorcycle and car crashed on Route 20 eastbound, near International Drive.

Joseph Peter Sandamena, 24, of Windsor, died from the injuries he sustained in the crash, according to police. Police said he was heading east on a 2009 Yamaha and was involved in a collision with Robert Earl Mcarthur, 61, of Harwinton, who had just taken a left out of the Phillips Route 66 gas station in a 2002 Subaru Impreza.

Police said Sandamena was thrown from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said McArthur was taken to Saint Francis Hospital to be treated for minor injuries

Both the bike and the car sustained heavy overall damage and had to be towed. The road was closed for about four hours, causing traffic during rush hour near the airport.

The accident remains under investigation and police ask anyone with information on the crash to call 860-534-1000.
