WETHERSFIELD – Aetna Ambulance Services sent seven ambulances to Prospect Street in Wethersfield Thursday morning for a school bus accident.
The school bus crashed into a parked jeep. Seven CREC students were taken to CCMC to be checked out, but school officials say there appear to be no major injuries. The driver of the First Student bus was taken to Hartford Hospital. The driver of the jeep also went to the hospital and suffered what appeared to be a broken nose.
The students were on their way to Glastonbury-East Hartford Magnet School, a magnet school operated by CREC.
Prospect Street was closed for some time but has since reopened.
Police say the bus driver was issued two infractions: driving too fast and distracted driving.
CREC released a statement on the incident, saying in part:
“All families have been contacted about the incident and are at the hospital with their children… Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. Student safety is CREC’s first priority. We are working closely with local officials to collect more information.”
