SHELTON–After a weeks-long fight, the parents of a Shelton High School student who died in a car crash in February say will get their son’s diploma.

Eddy Conklin died in a single-car rollover crash on February 28. When he died, he was one English class shy of the requirements to graduate.

The school’s superintendent refused Conklin’s parents’ request to award their son’s diploma at the graduation ceremony. Instead, Superintendent Christopher Clouet had repeatedly said he would hold a small, separate ceremony for the family to honor Eddy. But that wasn’t what the Conklins wanted.

The town rallied around the Conklins, displaying signs in local businesses in support and showing up in droves at a Board of Education meeting.

On Tuesday, a secret meeting was held at an undisclosed location, and Eddy’s parents, Barbara and Ed, tell FOX 61 that Eddy’s diploma will now be presented at graduation, like they had hoped for. FOX 61 is still waiting on comment from the school district.
