NORWICH–A sinkhole left part of Route 12 closed in the heart of Norwich closed for some time on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m. this afternoon it was reported that there was a sinkhole near 6th Street.
The sinkhole is 14 feet deep and 16 feet wide, and is not weather related, according to the state Department of Transportation. They are unsure of the cause.
“This one has baffled us,” said one DOT staffer.
There were no traffic back up in the quiet area, and got the road reopened in less than three hours.
