TORRINGTON — A grieving mother is remembering her son one day after he was struck and killed by a city snow plow truck.
“He is a young man that would make any mother proud,” Mary Ann Walsh said of her son, Michael Walsh, 25.
Police said Walsh was struck by a Torrington city plow at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Sunday morning while he was jogging on South Main Street. Walsh was rushed to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
Michael Walsh attended Saint Paul Catholic High School where he was an avid runner. He went to college at Fordham University where he was member of the university’s cross country and track teams.
“Running is a sport where you compete with yourself. It’s not so much a competitive sport against others,” Mary Ann Walsh said. “Michael was all about bettering himself, not being better than the next person.”
Walsh graduated from Fordham with a dual degree in biology and physics. According to his mother, he had just got into medical school before the accident.
“He would strive to achieve. He was ambitious in his quiet, quiet demeanor,” Mary Ann Walsh said.
The accident is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Torrington Police Department at 860-489-2061.
