MIDDLETOWN – Connecticut State Police are conducting a Move Over Law campaign to bring awareness, act as a reminder, and highlight the importance of moving over for emergency vehicles, highway maintenance crews, and tow trucks.
On Monday, February 22, state police started the campaign by posting information, pictures, and videos on social media about the law.
Five Connecticut state troopers and two auxiliary state troopers were killed in the line of duty while stopped on the side of the highway assisting motorists.
On Monday, February 29, state police began a week-long enforcement period focusing on those who violate the law. So far, state police have issued 304 tickets. Fines start at $181.
The goal of the campaign is to increase public safety awareness and compliance with the Move Over Law, not to issue tickets.
