WILLIMANTIC — A SWAT team responded early Saturday morning to a man barricaded in his Emerald Avenue home claiming that he had weapons.
According to police, the man was suicidal. Several apartments close to the man’s apartment were evacuated by SWAT team personnel and neighbors were asked to remain in their homes.
Police said it took them roughly 4 hours but they were able to safely get the man out of the house shortly after 6 a.m.
No weapons were found in the home.
The man is currently at Windham Hospital undergoing psychological evaluation and charges are pending.
“This was excellent outcome to an extremely volatile situation,” said Corporal Stanley F. Parizo, Jr. Willimantic Police Department SWAT team leader, in a press statement on the incident.
