FARMINGTON – Authorities in Farmington are urging people to be careful when swimming or tubing in the Farmington River.
This is after police found the body of a man from Connecticut in his early 20s in the Farmington River Wednesday night.
“The river is very unpredictable,” said Lt. Patrick Buckley. “There’s a lot of currents, varying depths, and its typically very dangerous to swim in the river.”
The Farmington Fire Department began searching the Farmington River near Tunxis Mead Park in Farmington around 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after reports of a party seen going underwater. The man’s body was found around 8:30 p.m. He was swimming with a group of friends when he went under, according to police.
Police encourage swimmers and tubers to take precautions when planning to visit the river, wear a personal floatation device and make sure you are a confident swimmer.
