WATERBURY – The Timexpo Museum, which opened in 2001 and was dedicated to the history of the Timex Group and its predecessor companies, including the Waterbury Clock Company, will close later this year, Timex announced today.
Low attendance at the museum, located at the Brass Mills Commons shopping center, was the reason for the closure, according to Timex.
Timex said the museum’s closure affects only the museum and that Timex intends to remain part of the Greater Waterbury community.
“Timex has a long and rich history with the greater Waterbury area and remains committed to its support for the businesses and people of Waterbury,” Timex spokesman Ryan Roth said. “We are very proud of our heritage, and the company and its employees will continue to donate time and funds towards programs benefitting the local community”.
Timex owns the artifacts in the museum but is looking into possible locations where some of the pieces could be shown.
The museum’s last day is currently scheduled for Sept. 30. The museum store, which features Timex Group’s products, will remain open through the end of the year, including for holiday shopping. The museum employs one person while three people work in the store.
