TORRINGTON — The triggerman in a deadly Connecticut home invasion spurred by the desire to steal $25,000 in marijuana sales proceeds has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.
The Republican American reports that 32-year-old Michael Calabrese was sentenced Tuesday for his role in the 2012 shooting of Luke Vitalis at his Sharon home.
A tearful Calabrese told the victim’s family that he was “sorry from the bottom of my heart” for the shooting that his father and lawyer blamed on drug addiction.
Calabrese pleaded guilty in August to charges including murder, home invasion and first-degree robbery.
Prosecutors say Calabrese was one of two masked men who forced their way in Vitalis’ home looking for $25,000 they believed the known marijuana dealer had.
He was the fourth person convicted in the case.
