HAMDEN – New poll numbers released Wednesday morning show Donald Trump as the clear front runner for the Republicans, and no clear front runner for the Democrats in the race for the White House.

Trump now leads his GOP rivals by a 2-1 margin nationally, with 39 percent of the vote, his highest percentage so far in a Quinnipiac Poll.

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is second with 19 percent, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has 18 percent, Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 6 percent. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Dr. Ben Carson are tied for with 4 percent each. Nine percent of voters are undecided.

It’s nearly a tie for the Democrats.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has 44 percent, and Sen. Bernie sanders of Vermont has 42 percent, the national Quinnipiac poll shows. Eleven percent of voters are still undecided.

These are the same percentages seen in the last QU poll two weeks ago.

The new numbers come ahead of the Nevada caucus Saturday.

A CNN-ORC poll released Wednesday morning shows nearly the same results in Nevada.

The poll shows 48 percent of likely democratic caucusgoers choose Clinton and 47 percent for Sanders.
