HARTFORD – Deadlines for people who want to vote in Connecticut’s presidential primary are quickly approaching.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says April 21 is the deadline for unaffiliated voters to change affiliation and for new voters to register online or by mail.
Unaffiliated voters can’t vote in Connecticut’s April 26 Democratic and Republican primaries.
Meanwhile, new and unaffiliated voters have until noon April 25 to enroll at town hall with a party.
Merrill’s office says nearly 22,000 unaffiliated voters have switched to a major party in 2016. So far, 13,722 have switched from unaffiliated to Democrat while 8,232 switched from unaffiliated to Republican.
Merrill urges people who can’t make it to the polls on April 26 to obtain an absentee ballot.
There’s no election day registration for the primary.
