STORRS — Auriemma and Calhoun are two of the biggest names in college sports in the state.
Jim Calhoun coached the UConn men’s basketball team from 1986 to 2012 and Geno Auriemma led the women’s basketball team at UConn since 1985.
Both coaches were incredibly successful, but sometimes they didn’t see eye to eye.
“Some people you just gravitate to, and some people you just don’t,” Auriemma said on The Seth Davis show on Campus Insiders. “After about the third or fourth year together in the same building it just became apparent I don’t want anything to do with this.”
He said he knew where the teams stood financially for the school, but he wanted to make sure his team got the hype they deserved.
“I don’t want anybody looking down on our program,” Auriemma added.
