OAKVILLE–A man has been arrested on several charges, including tracking a teenage girl.
On Tuesday, Michael Smith, 33, of Waterbury, was arrested and charged with trafficking in persons, promoting prostitution in the first degree and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Smith formerly lived in an apartment on Arcadia Avenue in Oakville with Jason Gibbs. While living there, Smith, who is a convicted felon, provided two 16-year-old girls with cocaine in the home. One of those girls was also prostituted. Two sexual acts occurred in the apartment, and a third occurred in a vehicle in Waterbury.
The Department of Children and Families provided the information to police that the victim had been trafficked and prostituted out of the Oakville apartment.
She is now safe.
During a separate investigation, police executed a search warrant on the Oakville apartment on April 21, at which time Gibbs was arrested on drug charges. Smith was not home at that time.
When Smith was arrested on Tuesday he was also charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to the narcotics investigation that got Gibbs arrested.
Smith was held on a $100,000 bond for the sex charges and an additional $10,000 bond for the drug charges. He is due in court on Wednesday.
