WATERBURY–More details have come out about the Waterbury elementary school principal who was placed on administrative leave last month.

Carrington Elementary School Principal Kevin Brennan was placed on leave so that the Board of Education and Waterbury Police could investigate him. The move was made just days after Brennan returned from a school trip to China with 10 students and 10 adult chaperones.

Now it has been revealed that while on that trip, Brennan took one female student to Taiwan on a side trip after the full 10-day trip finished up and the rest of the group went home. Parents tell the Waterbury Republican-American that the side trip was discussed in meetings for the China trip, and the girl’s father knew about it and gave his permission.

However, Waterbury schools Chief Operating Officer Paul Guidone says the district wasn’t told about the mini trip.

Police tell Fox CT that they found no criminal wrong-doing so far, but the investigation is ongoing.

Supervising Vice Principal Karen Renna is in charge while Brennan remains on leave; she is being supported by Instructional Leadership Director Darren Schwartz and other school leaders.
