MIDDLETOWN–The last of four students suspected of providing the drugs that led to 12 overdoses at Wesleyan has been arraigned.
Andrew Olson, 20, was charged with possession of less than ½ ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of a hallucinogen and two counts of sale of a hallucinogen.
According to the arrest warrant, a number of victims told police that Olson had provided them with the “bad batch” of Molly that led to the overdoses.
Olson returned to his room to find police waiting outside, and while he said he wasn’t responsible for the overdoses–which he had heard about–he did say he wasn’t comfortable with them searching his room because he was nervous there would be items inside that would incriminate him.
Wesleyan Public Safety was able to search the room since it is the property of the university, and police oversaw the search. Hundreds of empty pill capsules and a number of pill capsules filled with a white powdery substance were found. Drug packaging materials and marijuana were discovered as well, though there was not a large quantity of actual drug substance discovered.
Olson said none of the items found were related to the overdoses, and that the drugs and empty capsules were only there because friends would bring drugs to his room for him to test to ensure they were pure and “safe” to ingest. Police found no remaining drug testing kits in the room.
Police showed Olson’s photo to several of the victims in a photo array, and they identified him as the person who sold them the drugs.
Although the substances found all tested positive for some form of Molly or marijuana during field testing, all but one came back at the state laboratory as negative.
