Allen has an eye for detail, and these details are all around Kathleen Nealon's home.
Her home will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for visitors to see Allen's designs first-hand as part of the Near and Far Aid Designer House Tour. The Fairfield County charity tour works to help many people in need, wherever that need may arise. There will be six open houses Friday, each celebrating the art of living.
When Allen started working on Nealon's home, it was a completely blank slate. All the walls were white.
Then the work began.
Allen selected fabrics and sourced rugs from Istanbul. "I don't find everything in one or two stores," said Allen.
Nealon's house took two years to get ready for this weekend's tour. In the end, every room, every item -- big and small -- has been worked and reworked.
When Allen looks at a room, he asks what is the one feature in the room that the owner wants to stand out the most.
"These ceramic lamps are investment pieces," Allen said. "You wont find them in your neighbors house."
