OLD GREENWICH–Who wants to be a millionaire?
Lucrecia Veloz, of Stamford, may not have been expecting her life to change when she bought a Powerball ticket during last week’s mega-jackpot, and while she didn’t win the whole shebang, she did pick up a cool million!
Veloz’s “Quick Pick” ticket had five matching numbers, but missed the Powerball number. Of the 350,629 prize-winning Powerball tickets sold for that jackpot, only three had five matching numbers to win the $1 million prize.
“That’s fantastic news,” said Glen Scali, the owner of Grocery Express, where the winning ticket was sold. The Grocery Express is located at 1429 East Putnam St. in Old Greenwich. “We’re very happy that one of our customers was lucky enough to win a million dollars. It’s great to see.”
Grocery Express will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Four other recently sold “Match 5” prizes worth between $1 million and $2 million remain unclaimed:
- Powerball ticket with draw date of January 13, sold in Hartford County, worth $1 million
- Powerball ticket with draw date of January 9, sold in Fairfield County, worth $1 million
- Powerball ticket with draw date of January 9, sold in Hartford County, worth $2 million
- Powerball ticket with draw date of December 5, sold in Fairfield County, worth $1 million
The overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning a Powerball Match 5 prize are 1 in 11,688,054. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.
