HARTFORD — The battle over the completion of Dunkin Donuts Park appears to be headed to court as the developers fight the City of Hartford to finish the job.
The city fired DoNo LLC and Centerplan Construction last month for missing key deadlines that has left the Yard Goats without a home and now the developers are seeking a court injunction to reverse their termination.
According to the Hartford Courant, in a lawsuit filed yesterday, the developers say the city should not be allowed to have anyone else finish the construction of the $63 million park.
City officials have talked about finishing the job themselves.
According to the report, the lawsuit that was filed in Superior Court, contends the city is in default due to having many changes to the contraction plan without having the ability to pay for it.
The developers argue the city’s claim that they breached their contract by missing the completion deadline, saying there were more than 100 changes in April and May that caused the delay and cost overruns.
Just last week the developers said they would pay to finish the job, but the city isn’t buying it.
Yesterday, Mayor Luke Bronin fired back about the lawsuit in a statement.
“Last week DoNo LLC went after headlines with a fake offer to pay for the stadium’s completion, this week they’re filing a lawsuit to obstruct its completion. While we deal with this latest action from DoNo LLC, we remain focused on working productively with the surety, Arch Insurance, to ensure that a responsible, capable partner takes control of the project.”
FOX 61 reached out to the developers but have not heard back.
