BERLIN, Conn. — In Berlin, Eddie Hall spends his free time creating abstract art. This full-time father and attorney brings bold colors and geometric patterns to the discarded windows he finds.
“These works have allowed me to take something discarded and transform them into an item of beauty,” he said.
Cortège, one of his recent works, depicts a bright church in blues and warm tones. Across the flat blue sky, a red and yellow triangle sits to balance the image.
“I made a work, Cortège, after I was driving in Montreal on vacation with my kids and saw a church with a bell tower that stuck out to me," he said on his recent piece. "I pulled over, snapped a quick picture, then looked up others online of the church and worked with it until I had what I felt was my representation of the building within two weeks of getting home.”
According to Hall, architecture is a main theme in his works.
“Especially since I started painting on windows, I find that at least a third of the works that I do are either full buildings that have my attention or based on the lines of patterns I have seen in a building," he said. "Part of working in abstract geometric shapes, I think it really lends itself to representing architecture.“
Frank Lloyd Wright is a major influence, “my work with windows started out by trying to copy Frank Lloyd Wright for an old window in my house," he said.
While only exhibiting for the last three years, Hall has been shown in 42 different shows. He is a member of the Kehler Liddell Gallery and has work currently on display at the state capitol.
You can see some of Hall’s work on display at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists until March 24 and at the Community Renewal Team National Arts Program exhibit that will be held at ArtSpace in Hartford from March 9 until March 29.
