Youth community theatre has found a special home in Meriden.

MERIDEN, Conn — Story by Brie Beard / Avon High School

Youth community theatre has found a special home in Meriden Connecticut.

As a prominent member of the Meriden Community for over ten years, Meriden Youth Theatre (in partnership with the YMCA) produces 7 shows each year for K-12 Students in Connecticut.

The theatre most recently produced Once on a Housetop with their Rising Stars program, and made MYT history with their first sold-out run ever with Sister Act Jr.

Their most recent production, Cinderella, ran in early January.

High School Senior Tommy Morisse-Corsetti said he appreciates the “wide-range of shows” produced each year, and acknowledges that this is not something he can typically find at other youth theaters.

Meriden Youth Theatre does its due diligence to ensure that their students get a well-rounded theatre experience with various theatrical styles and time-periods. MYT not only strives to produce high quality shows, but also to build a strong community for artistic education. Each show comes with instruction in acting, singing, and dancing for all levels of performance.

This community provides students with a space to interact with their peers and mentors in a way they may not be able to elsewhere. Nicholas Palumbo, MYT Alumni and current MYT staff member sums up the MYT experience nicely, “Everybody’s super kind and wants to be here, and wants to put on the best performances that they can, and that’s what makes it really special.”
