WASHINGTON, Connecticut — Story by Michael Andrews, Spencer Campbell Shepaug Valley High School
The use of e-cigarettes or vaping among teenagers in the United States is alarming.
Shepaug Valley students, Michael Andrews and Spencer Campbell, spoke to teachers and students at SVS about the growing problem.
PE teacher Heather Hurley says that once a young person starts to experiment with vaping, it will almost always lead to more and more drugs.
Jim Stinson, Shepaug teacher and coach, says he notices the lack of aerobic ability among the students he suspects of vaping.
SVS student athlete Noah Schramm says he does not vape, but notices his vaping classmates do not have much stamina during the day.
Vaping affects students’ attention span because it is an addiction, and they look for ways to get out of class in order to feed their addiction.
Long-term effects of vaping are as of yet unknown.
