Devastating flood leaves Connecticut residents struggling weeks after disaster

Weeks after a historic flood ravaged parts of Connecticut, residents in Southbury are still grappling with devastating losses and uncertain futures, highlighting the long-lasting impact of the August 18th natural disaster.

Kathy Dibner, a local poultry business owner, has been particularly hard-hit. Her entire breeding flock of over 100 birds drowned, leaving her business in ruins. "I still cry every day about my birds," Dibner said, describing the property as "an absolute disaster."

Adding to the community's challenges, Dibner said she has been denied both insurance and FEMA assistance, leaving her with few resources to recover. Despite these setbacks, she finds hope in the community's response. "The community has been like the only thing that's been helping us," Dibner said, noting that the collective support has "restored faith in humanity."

Local residents like Charlotte Adams are taking grassroots action to support flood victims. Adams has been actively working to raise funds and support those impacted, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity. "I need to help. What can I do?" she said, stressing that support isn't just about monetary contributions but about showing people they're not alone.

The flood's impact extends far beyond immediate damage.

Community members continue to rally, offering support through whatever means they can. As Adams said, "Nobody wants to ever feel alone in life. Right. You have to have those people around you."

The disaster serves as a stark reminder of the devastating and long-lasting effects of natural disasters, particularly on small business owners and local communities.
