Robotics gear up for a new season at Hall | FOX61 Student News

With this year's competition's goal being pushing green triballs onto the opponent's side, students have built catapults and push mechanisms to win.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Story by Nathan Huang, Hall High School

With students coming in from all across the state, many students spend days and weeks working on making a robot that can out-compete their competitors. Whether it be adding more parts to the robot, making it heavier, or creating a more efficient system, students are taking lots of time to make small improvements to their robot.

Yet it's not only physical improvements to the robot that matter. There are other ways a robotics team can win, some of them being held within the code, and others being held within their strategy.

With this year's competition's goal being pushing green triballs onto the opponent's side, students have built catapults and push mechanisms to win. There are air-powered motors and electrically powered motors that do things like power flywheels which launch the triballs and motors which spin wheels propelling their robot forward.

With massive competitions being held each year, help is always welcomed during competitions. You can help at these competitions at your local high school or middle school.
