Henny Sinding risked her life to save over 300 Jewish people from the Nazi regime.

MYSTIC, Conn. — Zach Redanz and Chris Turner, Norwich Free Academy

World War II birthed many stories of tragedy, but with those hard times came heroes. Henny Sinding is just one of those many heroes.

Daughter to a Danish naval officer, Sinding, at just 22 risked her life to save over 300 Jewish people from the Nazi regime.

She was the captain of the Gerda III, a Danish vessel that was used to help rescue 95% of the Jewish population in Denmark.

That boat is currently located at the Mystic Seaport, where historian, Howard Veisz looks after the boat for the people at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
