SUFFIELD, Conn. — Daniel Craig & Thomas (TJ) Roberts, Suffield High School
During April vacation, the Suffield Public Schools Music Department is going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to all four Walt Disney World parks. There, at “the happiest place on Earth”, the band and the chorus will be performing and producing music from popular Disney movies, but with their own twist.
The five day trip will last from April 11th to April 14th, with Suffield visiting Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom. On April 12th, at Epcot, the band will participate in a soundtrack session workshop. The band will be playing alongside a medley of classic Disney songs. In Hollywood Studios, on April 13th, the chorus will participate in a Broadway-centered workshop session, performing music from the hit 2010 film, Tangled.
All workshops will be occurring backstage, so the students will have the opportunity to work directly with mentors on their numbers.
Grammy-nominated Mr. Anthony Ferreira, head of the Chorus Department, and Mr. Corey Killian, head of the Suffield Music Department offered their opinions on how prepared the Music Department is for such an important trip, and are encouraged by the preparations and feedback so far from their music students. Suffield senior Daniel Gleason, bass singer in the chorus and a Tuba player in the band, has shared that he is most excited for the opportunities for soundstage work at Disney, and the importance of the trip as a learning experience for the Suffield Music Department as a whole.
The Suffield band and chorus are very excited to have the opportunity to perform at Walt Disney World. Both Mr. Ferreira and Mr. Killian hope the trip can return as a renewed tradition for the Suffield Music Department.
