A family owned business in West Hartford, specializes on family portraits, weddings and so much more.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Colby Yingling, Ahmed Mahmoud, Hall High School, West Hartford

The sound of the camera. 

And shutter and flash are typical in every photography studio. 

But to Jane and Mike Shauck, this is the sound of good business. 

Iris photography. A family owned business in West Hartford, specializes on family portraits, weddings and so much more. Mike said his family owned business started from passion. 

Mike Shauck  said, "Well, Jane actually started the business. What led her to start it was dissatisfaction with a career. But Jane didn't really like working in automotive."

Jane Shauck said . "I said kind of, What am I doing with my life? I Didn't care at all about what I was doing from just from a values standpoint. I was on a search to find something more meaningful. Very much on my mind When Jane first approached the subject [I said] it is going to be tough financially." 

During the 2020 global pandemic, Their business took a hit. Mike and Jane detailed their experiences and their solutions."Everything stops. Then I go, weddings can't happen because of this virus, and companies won't have people in offices. You're not going to go in there. Wait a second. Family shoots," said Mike.

Mike details their strategies owning a family run business. "I always say if you can raise kids together, it's taking it to the next level. You have to come together and agree on things. And then the next level would be, Well, now you're working together. I think we complement each other skill wise."

Iris photography has been continually adapting and improving itself to become what it is today.
