Washington Food Market keeps going | FOX61 Student News

This small family owned businesses is the backbone of the village.

WASHINGTON, Connecticut — Story by Fin Konik, Gianna Trombetto - Shepaug Valley High School

Connecticut is home to 315,338 small family owned businesses. 

That's 90% of all Connecticut businesses in the state. With these numbers it is clear to see that these small family owned businesses are the backbone of the state. Shepaug Valley School student reporters, Fin Konik and Gianna Trombetto, head to arguably the most important family owned business in the small town of Washington: 

The Washington Food Market. They talk to the store’s owner and employees about the market’s over a century long history, benefits to the community, and past hardships. And it is easy to see that the Washington Food Market is a vital part of the community.

The FOX 61 Student News program empowers Connecticut middle and high school students to explore the world of multi-media journalism by giving them the opportunity to capture, edit and publish original content under the guidance of industry professionals.

Each student produced and hosted segment will showcase a local story or event, highlighting all that is great about our state. Segments will be featured on-air during Friday's Morning News at 7:45 a.m., 5:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. news and during the FOX61 Morning News on Saturday at 7 a.m., and right here on FOX61.com!
