HARTFORD -- A movement to bring arts programs to schools was celebrated in Hartford Wednesday. Students at Parkville Community School celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Moving Matters at Trinity College.
The event recognizes movement and the arts.
"It really helps with their learning and writing," said Judy Dworin of the Judy Dworin Performance Project. "They read a story, they do writing prompts based on the story, and then they create dances and put all that together, so it also increases their sense of community and joy and living with each other as a school."
Movement Matters was started twenty years ago with just one fifth grade class at the Parkville Community School. It has since grown to have more than 500 children at the school participate in the program.
