Driver extricated after pickup truck crashed off road in Portland

Fire chief says the pickup truck crashed through trees and landed well off road. The driver was conscious when put into ambulance.

PORTLAND, Conn. — Police and firefighters responded to a crash on Route 66 Thursday about 1:30 p.m.

According to Fire Chief Bob Shea, a pickup truck headed westbound went off the road, crashed through trees and came to rest far down in a ditch. 

Officials had to perform a low angle rescue to extricate the sole occupant.

The driver was conscious when placed aboard an ambulance for transport to Hartford Hospital.
