Protests in CT: Reward offered in New Haven for information on Molotov Cocktails thrown at police substation

Protests continue across the country over the death of George Floyd

HARTFORD, Conn. — Protesters took to the streets across Connecticut Tuesday and in the early evening hundreds of people marched through Blue Back Square in West Hartford. Other protests were seen in Willimantic and Fairfield.

3 p.m.

New Haven police are offering a reward for information on suspects who throw Molotov Cocktails at two New Haven police substations early Monday morning. 

There is a reward of up to $2,500 for each incident ($5,000 total) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspect or suspects involved in the incidents.

According to a release, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Winchester Avenue and Hazel Street in the Newhallville neighborhood Monday shortly after 2 a.m.

Evidence of an attempted arson fire was located outside the police substation at 596 Winchester Avenue. 

Similar damage was also located at a substation at 410 Howard Avenue and investigators determined an incendiary device was thrown at an exterior wall.

“Somebody tried to burn two community buildings,” NHPD Chief Otoniel Reyes said.

Protesters marched down Main Street in Hartford early Tuesday afternoon. A group of around 50 people marched through downtown streets Tuesday, protesting racial injustice and the death of George Floyd.

Westfarms Mall announces they will be opened today 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Yesterday the mall closed out of an abundance of caution due to a rumored "planned riot" on social media.
