Shooting by New London officer under investigation by Office of Inspector General

The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries related to the shooting.

NEW LONDON, Conn. — A shooting by a New London officer on Sunday afternoon is under investigation by the Office of Inspector General. 

At around 1:52 p.m., New London police responded to a report of a shooting at the American Best Value Inn on Bayonet Street. Further investigation led officers to the Clarion Inn on North Frontage Road where police were searching for a male suspect. 

The man was located in one of the hotel rooms and when police made contact with the man, a shooting ensued, according to police. The man was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment for the injuries sustained in the shooting, said police.

The conditions of the man are not yet known. 

The New London State Attorney's Office and Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit are also assisting in the investigation.
