State Police: Car carrying two children struck by gunfire in rolling shootout

No injuries reported in the incident that happened Sunday morning off of Route 9 in Cromwell.

CROMWELL, Conn. — State Police say two cars exchanged gunfire on just off of Route 9 in Cromwell on Sunday morning, striking another car that was carrying two children.

No one was injured in the incident, which began at about 10:20 a.m. on the Exit 19 offramp from Route 9 South. 

State Police say a white sedan and a red sedan were seen in the area, with the occupants exchanging gunfire. The white sedan was last seen fleeing onto Route 372 North. 

Police said, "The bullets struck an innocent vehicle carrying two children during the exchange." Police said the shooting did not appear to be random, but "rather a road rage incident between two drivers."

The case remains under investigation. The Central District Major Crimes Squad is requesting that anyone with any information that could pertain to this shooting please call Troop H at (860) 534-1000. All information will remain confidential.
