HARTFORD - Education Commissioner Dianna Wentzell discusses this year's achievement test results, which show gains in many areas, but there is much more to do when it comes to closing the achievement gap between white and minority students, and between students from lower- and higher-income families. Also, about half of the of the state's elementary and middle school students are not testing at grade level in math nor English.
However, the state Education Department said Connecticut has high quality public education, as seen by record high graduation rates, rising test scores and more school options.
