MANCHESTER -- The 79th Manchester Road Race has its unofficial winners! Will Geoghegan finished in just about 21:33. For the women, Olympian and defending champion Diane Nukuri of Burundi had no one around her as she crossed the finish line at 24:20.
Geoghegan is a Nike runner from Eugene, Oregon.
Glastonbury native Donn Cabral was a local favorite to win race. He finished second. The 25-year-old competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games. He's run several Manchester Road Races and placed 4th in 2014 and 2013 and placed 3rd in 2012.
Diane Nukuri, 30, was a favorite to win for the women. She won the Manchester Road Race in 2014 and finished in the top 10 in 2012, 2010, 2009, and 2008. She also finished 8th in this year's Chicago Marathon.
Natasha Wodak came in second place, Emma Bates in 3rd, and Maddie Van Beek in 4th.
About 15,000 runners, ranging from Olympians to costumed joggers, packed Main Street to compete in the annual event, known for its unique length of 4.748 miles.
This year, race organizers gave special red, white and blue bibs to male runners who have run the race 50 times or more and female competitors who have run 40 times or more.
Race organizers donated more than $100,000 in proceeds from last year's Thanksgiving Day race to 19 charitable and non-profit organizations.
