CONNECTICUT, USA — A Thompson man was arrested in Connecticut Wednesday after colliding into a Coventry, R.I. officer with a vehicle and taking off from the scene, according to police.
Coventry, R.I. police said that on Tuesday at 9 p.m., they along with officers from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management went to the Coventry Bike Path west of Lewis Farm Road to disperse a group of people.
A vehicle took off from the scene as officers approached the group and hit one of the Coventry, R.I. police officers, police said. It then continued towards Connecticut without stopping after the collision.
The officer was taken to Kent Hospital for treatment and their condition is currently unknown, according to police.
Police said the suspect, Ryland Roy, 19, of Thompson, was identified after on-scene witness interviews and other measures taken by investigators.
Roy was arrested on Wednesday by Connecticut State Police as a "fugitive from justice" and is currently awaiting extradition in Connecticut to be arraigned in Rhode Island on the charge of felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
Additional charges may be presented as the investigation continues, police said.
