HARTFORD, Conn — After days of scorching heat, conditions dampened as isolated storms struck the state.
Residents reacting to a storm more intense than they had anticipated. “I don’t think it was just a little storm, it really sounded like a tornado,” said Erin Turner of East Windsor.
Damage included flooded roadways in Hartford, along with downed trees in a few neighborhoods.
In the Phelps Road area of East Windsor, a tree that neighbors described as ‘concerning’ collapsed and landed just feet away from a neighborhood home. Erin Turner, grateful her neighbors weren’t injured. “Usually we get a couple branches flying at the most, maybe some trees or trash on the ground but not big trees falling like this at all. Nobody was in the cars, nobody was trying to come in, the way it fell was the perfect way to fall. I’m just glad nobody got hurt,” said Turner.
Gusty winds also took down power lines in several areas of Litchfield County, leading to outages. These conditions made for a wetter, slower-than-usual evening commute, and a change in scenery for some taking an evening stroll. Communities won’t have long to repair the damage, as more storms are expected to roll through during the first weekend of the summer.
