COVENTRY, Conn. — Over 100 domestic and farm animals were seized from a home in Coventry after a weeks-long investigation that ended in two arrests for animal cruelty.
Coventry police arrested Sandra Lis and Kristal Lis, who lived at the home, this week. Kristal Lis was charged with 119 counts of cruelty to animals, while Sandra Lis was charged with 19 counts of cruelty to animals. Both were released on a non-surety bond and are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.
Coventry police were notified of a home on Dunn Road that had over 100 animals on the property in "varying" conditions. When police searched the home, they found horses, pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, goats and many types of birds. Those animals were seized with the help of several animal control agencies from around the state, including animal control agencies in Windsor, Vernon, Willimantic, Deep River/Essex, Stafford, NECCOG, and the state's animal control unit.
"We would like to thank these agencies for their assistance which was necessary due to the large number of animals that needed to be transported, housed, and cared for," Coventry police said in a news release.
There were also eight dead animals found in a freezer at the home; those animals were sent to UConn for autopsies.
