VERNON, Connecticut — A driver was arrested after a car went off-road and into the Hockanum River in Vernon early Sunday morning, officials said.
Vernon police said that they were called at 1:25 a.m. to the area of 57 Hartford Turnpike after the car with two people inside went into the river.
The Vernon Fire Department said that they were called to the scene by police just before 2 a.m., along with the town's emergency medical services. Crews found the car 10 feet down a slope with the hood partially submerged in the water.
Both people inside were able to get on their own, and one person was taken to the hospital for evaluation, the fire department said.
Police said the driver was arrested and is charged with DUI.
The car has since been removed from the river, according to police.
No further information regarding the cause or events leading up to the incident was made immediately available Sunday morning.
