HEBRON, Conn — A person was found dead after firefighters in Hebron extinguished a second-alarm house fire overnight Saturday.
Just after midnight, the Hebron Fire Department was called to Hope Valley Road for a single-family home on fire. Firefighters arrived to find the home "fully involved in fire."
The Colchester Fire Department responded to assist and reported that there were people trapped during the fire. Three people were living inside the home, according to Hebron Fire Chief Peter Starkel.
One person was found dead and two people were taken to the hospital, Starkel said.
The identity of the person who died, as well as the cause of the fire, is currently unknown.
Volunteer firefighters from Lebanon pumped water from about seven tankers. There were no nearby hydrants, so firefighters said they had to shuttle water from a nearby pond, put it into portable pools, and send it down the long driveway to help put the fire out.
The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes after arrival. The house had significant damage and is considered "a total loss," Starkel said.
Firefighters from departments in Andover, Bolton, Columbia, Marlborough and Willimantic also assisted.
The Hebron Fire Marshal's Office and Connecticut State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and Major Crimes detectives also responded to the scene, state police said.
