WILLINGTON, Conn. — A Stafford man was arrested a year after being in a deadly head-on crash on Route 32 in Willington.

Dominic Ledbetter, 19, turned himself in Monday in connection to the death of Clifton Graves, who was 55.

Ledbetter is accused of colliding head-on with Graves' vehicle on 700 River Road (Route 32) in Willington at 4:30 a.m. last November.

Both were taken to the hospital, but Graves passed away from his injuries. State police said they did not see Ledbetter impaired by alcohol or drugs at the scene, and no tests detected substances in his system.

During the investigation, Ledbetter shared a statement with investigators, saying he does not drink or do drugs and has been told that it's dangerous to use a phone while driving.

"What occurred that night is something that I will never forget and I am profoundly sorry for what had occurred," Ledbetter said in the statement to investigators.

Investigators found a text sent out nine minutes before his phone was used to call 911 but found no evidence of activity at the moment of the crash.

The investigation determined that Ledbetter's vehicle was gradually increasing in speed, traveling at 57 mph just a half-second before the crash.

Ledbetter was charged with negligent homicide with a vehicle, failure to maintain proper lane, and traveling unreasonably fast. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
