STORRS, Conn. — The victories of the UConn women's basketball team and Syracuse Orange have determined a matchup in the second round of the NCAA tournament Monday night.
No. 3 seed UConn celebrated coach Geno Auriemma's 70th birthday Saturday with an 86-64 win over Jackson State, with redshirt junior guard Paige Bueckers scoring 28 points and freshman guard Ashlynn Shade scoring 26 points.
The Huskies' second-round match was decided after No. 6 seed Syracuse University achieved a 74-69 win over the University of Arizona.
UConn will face off against the Orange in a game at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
In a previous NCAA tournament matchup between the two teams in March 2021, Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards led the Huskies to the Sweet 16 with a score of 83-47.
The winner of Monday's game will decide which team moves up to the Sweet 16 to face off against either Ohio State or Duke on March 30.
According to the Associated Press, the Huskies have appeared in 35 straight NCAA tournaments and are currently 31-2 in first-round games.
