WILLINGTON, Conn. — After receiving several 911 calls around 4:30 a.m. Saturday about a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes around Exit 68 on Interstate 84 in Tolland, state police discovered a silver Honda Crosstour parked on the rest area entrance ramp in Willington, according to a release.
While speaking to the driver, 40-year-old Gilberto Rivera of Hartford, troopers observed signs of impairment and asked him to participate in a standard field sobriety test; Rivera did not perform them to standard, state police said.
Following the investigation, troopers took Rivera into custody, according to state police, who said he was transported to Troop C, processed and charged with operating under the influence, operating under suspension, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and reckless endangerment in the second degree.
Rivera was released on a $25,000 bond, police said, adding that he is scheduled for arraignment at Rockville Superior Court on June 10.
“A vehicle traveling the wrong way on any road is a hazardous situation and an emergency. Please call 911 to report wrong way drivers as soon as it’s safe to do so,” state police said, in the release.
