Tweed-New Haven partners with Connecticut Foodshare for the holidays

The airport and food bank are collaborating in support of New Haven's fight against food insecurity.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Tweed-New Haven Airport has kicked off its annual holiday partnership with Connecticut Foodshare, continuing its commitment to supporting the Greater New Haven community.

As part of the collaboration, the airport donated $5,000 to Connecticut Foodshare to help address food insecurity in support of its mission of providing equitable access to nutritious meals.

In addition to the donation, airport leadership and staff volunteered their time to serve meals and pack backpacks with food for local students at the Community Soup Kitchen in New Haven. The annual event highlights the importance of community partnerships, especially during the holiday season.

“We’re thrilled to be part of this initiative,” said Michael Jones, CEO of the airport. “Food insecurity is a challenge for many, and we’re grateful to join Connecticut Foodshare and CSK in providing support for those in need.”

The Community Soup Kitchen, which has been serving New Haven since 1977, provides over 70,000 meals annually, offering more than just food. CSK also provides health screenings, showers and essential supplies for those in need.

“We’re honored to partner with HVN and CSK during the holiday season,” said Jason Jakubowski, president and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare. “Together, we can expand our mission to ensure nutritious food reaches everyone, especially during times of increased need.”

This holiday partnership reflects the power of community-driven efforts to combat hunger and strengthen the impact of local organizations like CSK, which has long been a key resource for New Haven residents.

"We are grateful for this partnership, which helps us continue our vital work in the community,” added Greg DePetris, executive director of CSK.

Through these joint efforts, HVN and Connecticut Foodshare are making a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling with food insecurity in New Haven.
