BRIDGEPORT -- The University of Connecticut Women's basketball team unsurprisingly punched its ticket to the Final Four Monday night.
UConn played Texas at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, and defeated the Longhorns 86-65.
Morgan Tuck scored 22 points and Breanna Stewart added 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead top-seeded UConn back to the Final Four.
It's UConn's ninth straight trip to the Final Four where it will be trying for a record fourth consecutive national championship--a feat never accomplished in the sport.
The victory, UConn's 73rd straight overall, was also the school's 22nd consecutive one in the postseason, breaking a tie with Tennessee for the most in a row.
Two more victories will give coach Geno Auriemma an 11th title, moving him past vaunted UCLA men's coach John Wooden for most all-time in college basketball history.
On Saturday, the team beat Mississippi State by 60 points. The best team in the nation put together one of its most dominant games during this run, needing just four minutes to quash any thoughts of the Bulldogs pulling off the victory.
UConn scored the game's first 13 points and led 32-4 after the first quarter. It didn't get any better for the Bulldogs, who trailed by 49 at the half and lost by a record margin.
Over the weekend, Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy tweeted, "UConn Women beat Miss St. 98-38 in NCAA tourney. Hate to punish them for being great, but they are killing women's game. Watch? No thanks."
On Sunday, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma fired back in regards to Shaughnessy's comments.
"Don't watch," Auriemma said. "Nobody's putting a gun to your head to watch. So don't watch. And don't write about it. Spend your time on things that you think are important. If you don't think this is important, don't pay any attention to it. The fact that you have to comment on it, says something about you, doesn't it? We are where we are. We are what we are. You know? We do what we do. We do what we do. When Tiger was winning every major, nobody said he was bad for golf. Actually, he did a lot for golf. He made everybody have to be a better golfer. And they did. And now there's a lot more great golfers because of Tiger."
Washington and Syracuse also won and will go on to play April 3 in the Final Four in Indianapolis. The last Final Four entrant will be decided later Monday night.
