HARTFORD — About 20,000 spectators attended the 2016 UConn women’s victory rally and parade in downtown Hartford Sunday, April 10, according to Hartford Police.
The parade stepped off at 1 p.m. at the Connecticut State Capitol building and was followed by a rally on Trumbull Street in front of the XL Center, where the Huskies play some of their home games.
The rally featured music, confetti and remarks from Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Governor Dannel Malloy and a number of players, including senior forwards Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck. Unfortunately Coach Geno Auriemma couldn’t attend because he was sick.
UConn defeated Syracuse 82-51 in the championship game April 5.
