WATERBURY, Conn — A 14-year-old boy is suffering from life-threatening injuries after being shot by a 35-year-old man in Waterbury, said police.
Axel Maldonado of Waterbury was arrested on Sunday in connection to the shooting that happened on Saturday evening.
Maldonado was charged with criminal attempt at murder with special circumstances, assault in the first degree. reckless endangerment in the first degree, risk of injury, criminal use of a weapon, and similar charges.
At around 6:48 p.m. on Nov. 4, Waterbury police responded to the area of Silver Street on a report of a gunshot victim. When police arrived, they located a 14-year-old with a gunshot wound lying in a common hallway.
The victim was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital and later to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT (CCMC) where he is considered to be in stable condition while being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Maldonado is currently being held on a one million dollar bond pending court arraignment on Nov. 6.
