WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Three people are hospitalized after a police pursuit ended in a fiery crash.
Hartford police said it began Sunday when they took a shots fired report involving a dark-colored Infiniti with Massachusetts plates. Police then gave the information to other surrounding towns to be on the lookout.
On Monday, a car with the same description was reportedly involved in the theft of a catalytic converter from a car parked on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. The car fled the scene.
This morning around 6 a.m., Hartford officers were in pursuit of the Infiniti and notified West Hartford police as the chase went onto New Britain Avenue.
West Hartford police then set up tire deflation devices and helped Hartford officers with the pursuit as it continued onto New Park Avenue.
Police said the car was speeding when the driver lost control and the area of Jefferson Avenue.
The car drove off the road, struck large rocks in a parking lot, and then went airborne. The car then took down telephone wires and a utility pole before crashing into a parked car and a house. Following the crash, the car caught fire at its final resting place at New Park Avenue and Darcy Street.
"They are doing their job, that's what they train for," said West Hartford Battalion Cheif John Sokolowski, "Police officers who responded obviously acted quickly to ensure the safety of the people who were in the vehicle while the vehicle was on fire. The firefighters who responded to the sense are highly trained individuals who showed up and made sure the scene was secured as quickly as possible.
Police said officers provided first aid to the three adults inside the suspect car and all were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Are three are currently listed in stable condition, according to officials.
